Overview

VPN Proxy Master is mostly known for its free VPN that has a total of 15M+ downloads between its pro and lite apps on the Google Play Store. The VPN also has a premium version that boasts 6,000+ servers in 40+ countries. The premium version’s highlight is its streaming capabilities as the VPN provides several servers optimized for bypassing streaming blocks.

The company behind VPN Proxy Master is based in Singapore, but it has Chinese ties – which is always a source of concern. Nevertheless, the VPN uses top-grade security, and its privacy policy doesn’t raise any alarms.

Features & Functionality

A decent VPN needs to provide an all-round service, and here’s what VPN Proxy Master has to offer.

Kill Switch

VPN Proxy Master provides a kill switch meant to protect users from exposure whenever the VPN disconnects. The VPN’s kill switch works by detecting IP changes. However, we noticed that the kill switch doesn’t work on Windows during our tests.

Streaming

VPN Proxy Master does well here as it provides several servers that it has optimized for streaming. The VPN offers servers for Netflix, HotStar, Hulu, and ESPN+. In the case of Netflix, you’ll find servers that you can use to access Netflix US, Japan, and Germany.

Decent Server Network

VPN Proxy Master states that their server network consists of 6000+ global servers in 40+ countries. This is quite a huge number, and it puts the VPN on par with the likes of CyberGhost and NordVPN.

However, the VPN doesn’t list the specific servers, and you also can’t choose them at the city-level.

6 Simultaneous Connections

The VPN is quite generous as it lets users connect up to 6 devices simultaneously. This may not be as many as what some VPNs offer (unlimited connections), but it is still more than the industry standard.

Privacy and Security

VPN Proxy Master was previously listed as owned by Innovative Connecting PTE. Limited but is now owned by Lemon Clove Pte. Limited, a company registered in Singapore. These two are one and the same, and they even have an identical website. And although the two don’t provide much information, Innovative Connecting’s director is Chen Danian, the well-known Chinese entrepreneur, and CEO behind Linksure. Innovative Connecting is also behind ten other VPN products.

Apart from its links to China, the VPN Proxy Master’s privacy policy looks quite good. The VPN lists all the information they don’t collect, and this includes activities, connection timestamps, and IP addresses. We also didn’t experience any IP or DNS Leaks when doing our tests, although it’s important to note that VPN Proxy Master uses Google DNS (which is not private).

In terms of security, VPN Proxy Master states that they use the recommended AES 256-bit encryption on all their apps.

Customer Support

VPN Proxy Master provides customer support through live chat, email, and FAQ. Email support is available 24/7 for premium users, and so you can always get in touch. When we tested the VPN’s support, we received a response after 1 hour and 35 minutes.

Apart from the support agents, the FAQ provides lots of information about the VPN. However, it would be great to see technical guides and tutorials for novice users.

Speed

VPN Proxy Master works well on various devices, and we didn’t experience any connection issues. It is also super-fast in connecting to a server.

However, some of the features on the Windows app don’t really work, and these include the kill switch and a new split tunneling feature that is still in beta version.

As for speeds, VPN Proxy Master is quite a mixed bag. According to the tests we did, the VPN’s speeds don’t really depend on the distance from the server you are connecting to but rather on the specific location (or server).

When we conducted several tests using a connection with 50 Mbps download speeds, we recorded up to 46 Mbps on some servers. However, other servers (including some streaming servers) could only give us 4 Mbps, which is quite the contrast.

Ease of Use

VPN Proxy Master is quite compatible, and it provides custom apps for Windows, macOS, Android, iOS, Fire TV, and Chrome/ Edge.

After installing the VPN, you’ll get several prompts to upgrade or try the premium version for free. Just ignore them and sign in using your credentials.

The desktop apps are quite simple, and you can connect by just clicking a large connect button. This button will choose the best server depending on your location.

You can also select your own server from the main server list or the streaming server list.

To customize your connection, click the settings button. You can then determine how the VPN behaves and which protocol to use, among others.

The mobile apps are also simple and easy to use. However, the iOS app does not have any advanced features. The Android app allows you to choose a protocol and boost your phone performance.

Final Word

VPN Proxy Master’s popularity is due to the free plan, and the VPN is primarily suited to Android users. If you go for the premium service, you can also enjoy potentially fast speeds and unblock several streaming services seamlessly. You will also be able to torrent with unlimited bandwidth, using any server you like.

However, the VPN’s lack of working features means that it is less customizable and not meant for advanced users. Privacy purists may also not be comfortable with a VPN that has Chinese links and uses Google DNS. Apart from that, VPN Proxy Master comes out as a decent service.
